Information on Thassos
The island of Thassos is located in Northern Greece, across the coasts of Eastern Macedonia. The length of its shores reaches the 115 km and the surface of its terrain the 378.84 sq. km.
A distance of 18 nautical miles separates the island from Kavala and just 6 miles from Keramoti and the Airport of Kavala. Administratively, Thassos belongs to Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, whilst, along with the islets that surround it, is embedded in the homonymous municipality and the homonymous regional section.
The capital of the island is Limenas (Port). The island is fully green and wood constitutes one of the main incomes of Thasians, as well as the marble mining, tourism, oil, olives, honey etc. Olive trees, pine trees, plane trees, linden trees, cedar trees, cornel trees and other tame and wild trees cover the small plains up to the peaks of the mountains. The island has about 14,000 inhabitants.
Activities favored in Thassos include waterskiing and fishing, hiking and mountain climbing, hunting and bird watching.
